The Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out a new search feature for the Updates tab, making it possible to search for status updates and channels on the application.
“The feature was under development in the previous versions of the app but, thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 22.214.171.124 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is finally rolling out this feature to some beta testers,” WABetaInfo reported.
According to the report, search button may now be available within the top app bar, making it possible to search for status updates, followed channels, and even other verified channels.
If you want to discover if this feature is available to your account, close the app twice after updating it from the Google Play Store as this action might force the search button to appear within the Updates tab.
The report suggested that this feature is highly beneficial as it was very complicated to search for status updates shared by a specific contact with the new Updates tab, making the user experience definitely worse.
With the latest update of the app, the Meta-owned app is introducing the search feature for status updates again, along with important improvements to allow users to quickly search for followed channels and other verified channels without opening the directory.
The search feature in the Updates tab is now accessible to select beta testers who have installed the latest WhatsApp beta for Android via the Google Play Store. It will gradually become available to a wider audience in the coming days.
In related news, WhatsApp is also releasing pinned messages feature and a redesigned chat attachment menu for the users. Soon, users will be able to highlight a message by pinning it to the top of their chat conversations, making it easier for other people to access to important or frequently referenced messages.
