WhatsApp will soon bring the ability to initiate group calls with up to 31 people, WABetaInfo has reported. This update is currently rolling out to beta users, with wider availability expected in the coming weeks.

This update is currently available for WhatsApp beta users who have installed version 2.23.19.16 for Android. Alongside this 31-people group calling feature, WhatsApp is also now rolling out a revised interface for the calls tab.

“WhatsApp added some minor tweaks to the calls tab. Specifically, call links are no longer mentioned within this screen, which now only states that it’s possible to call one or more contacts,” WABetaInfo reported.

Notably, this update is majorly focused on connecting a large group of people quickly and conveniently—with just a few taps. And, while the Meta-owned WhatsApp already allowed group calls of up to 32 participants in the past, users were limited to just 15 contacts when starting such a call.

Now, “users can now immediately start large group calls by picking up to 32 people, including the caller who initiated the call, eliminating the previous restriction which could appear restrictive in some situations and cause confusion among users,” WABetaInfo said.

When Is It Rolling Out

As we noted, the update is currently only available for WhatsApp beta users who install version 2.23.19.16 via the Google Play Store, but this is expected to roll out to more users over the next few weeks.
