At its annual Google for India event, Google announced that it will start assembling Pixel smartphones in India and the first smartphone from that will come with the ‘Made in India’ tag will be the newly launched Pixel 8. Google has been working behind the scenes to expand its manufacturing base outside of China just like Apple and this announcement shows that Google sees India as an important market and will focus on the country for years to come.
As far as the availability, the locally manufactured Pixel 8 smartphone will hit the market in 2024. Google, however, did not comment anything officially regarding the pricing.
Having said that, if you follow the pricing trends of Pixel phones, it can be safe to consider that the prices of Pixel smartphones come down drastically within 6 months of the launch. And with local manufacturing, the pricing of flagship Pixel 8 phones may become more accessible for more Indian buyers.
Keeping the pricing bit aside, another aspect is that with local manufacturing, spare parts of Google Pixel 8 smartphones can be expected to be widely available. As of now, Google has partnered with F1 for providing official customer support. But there are only 27 F1 service centres across India that cater to servicing Pixel smartphones. Things may change for the better going ahead with Google locally assembling Pixel 8 in India.
