Google has scheduled its Pixel launch event for October 4.
Google’s upcoming Pixel 8 models are expected to marginally jump in price compared to Pixel 7 series phones from last year. Here’s what we know.
Google is all set to launch its Pixel 8 series next month on October 4, with a reported price hike in the US, as reported by 9to5Google. According to the report, both the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro will see price increases this year.
Time and again, we’ve seen Google price its phones to undercut similarly matched devices. For instance, the Galaxy S23 in India costs Rs 74,999, while the Pixel 7 starts at Rs 59,999. The report notes that Google’s efforts since the launch of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have been focused on delivering “value.”
However, with the upcoming release, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro could see a $100 price increase—retailing at $699 and $999—respectively. Moreover, the phones are expected to be available in retail stores on October 12, with pre-orders going live on the launch date itself.
It remains to be seen if Google will raise the prices for these models in price-sensitive countries, including India. Notaby—in India—Google is making a significant change compared to last year by launching the second-generation Pixel Watch. The debut Pixel Watch was absent from the lineup alongside the Pixel 7 series smartphones last year.
Pixel 8 Series Specifications and Features: What to Expect
The Google Pixel 8 series is expected to be powered by Google’s third-generation in-house Tensor G3 processor. It is also expected to retain the same aesthetics and design as the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, with some changes to the camera module on the back. However, reports suggest that the Pixel 8 models could feature a 6.7-inch flat screen—abandoning the curved panel seen in the Pixel 7 Pro.
Given its focus on camera capabilities, the Pixel 8 series may offer a Night Mode for video, enabling users to capture better videos in low-light conditions.
A recent report by MySmartPrice also claims that each of the Pixel 8 models will be available in three different colors. The Pixel 8 Pro could come in Sky Blue, Porcelain, and Black Obsidian, while the Pixel 8 could be available in Peony Rose, Grey, and Obsidian Black.
