ऑप्टिकल फाइबर केबल की मदद से हमें आजकल पहले की तुलना में बेहतर इंटरनेट मिलता है. OFC में लाइट की एक जगह से दूसरे जगह तक फास्ट ट्रेवल करती है जिसकी मदद से कार्बन केबल की तुलना में हमे बेहतर इंटरनेट स्पीड मिलती है. हालांकि अब DOT इंटरनेट स्पीड को और बेहतर बनाने के लिए टेलीकॉम कंपनियों और इंटरनेट सर्विस प्रोवाइडर्स के लिए OFCs के स्टैंडर्ड बदलने वाला है. यानि नए मानक ऑप्टिकल फाइबर केबल के लिए बनाये जायेंगे ताकि हमे बेहतर स्पीड मिले.
वर्तमान में कई बार चल रहे डेवपलमेंट प्रोजेक्ट्स और खराब या लो OFC क्वॉलिटी की वजह से इंटरनेट सर्विस ठप हो जाती है. कई बार टेलीकॉम कंपनियों और ISPs को ख़राब केबल्स को ठीक करने में काफी समय भी लग जाता है या कई बार ये केबल लो क्वॉलिटी की वजह से खूब ब खुद खराब भी हो जाती हैं. इसकी वजह से ग्राहकों को तो समस्या आती ही है, साथ ही टेलीकॉम कंपनियों का भी पैसा वेस्ट होता है.
इस समय को खत्म करने के लिए DOT ऑप्टिकल फाइबर केबल के लिए नए स्टैंडर्ड बनाने वाला है जिसमें न्यू जनरेशन की केबल्स का इस्तेमाल किया जाएगा ताकि ये ख़राब न हो, साथ ही जल्द से रिकवर भी हो पाएं. DoT के तहत दूरसंचार इंजीनियरिंग केंद्र (TEC) इस विषय में काम कर रहा है और जल्द नई गाइडलाइन्स कंपनियों के लिए आ सकती हैं.
हर 3 साल में बदलनी पड़ती हैं केबल्स
द फाइनेंसियल एक्सप्रेस की रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, एक सरकारी अधिकारी ने बताया कि वर्तमान में भारत में 2,600 इंटरनेट सर्विस प्रोवाइडर्स हैं और इनके द्वारा बिछाई गई OFC की क्वॉलिटी ज्यादा अच्छी नहीं है. अधिकारी ने कहा कि ये केबल्स ज्यादा से ज्यादा 3 साल तक सही रह पाती हैं. इसके बाद इन्हें कंपनियों को बदलना पड़ता है. वर्तमान में, भारत में ज्यादातर G652D फाइबर जैसे लीगेसी वेरिएंट का उपयोग किया जाता है. इसमें एक समस्या ये है कि फाइबर के झुकने या मुड़ने पर सिग्नल की रोशनी कम हो जाती है, जिससे नेटवर्क स्पीड प्रभावित होती है.
देशभर में फैले ऑप्टिकल फाइबर की कुल लंबाई
डिजिटल इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर प्रोवाइडर्स एसोसिएशन (डीआईपीए) के अनुसार, 30 जून तक देश में तैनात कुल ऑप्टिकल फाइबर की लंबाई 3.73 मिलियन किलोमीटर थी जो सितंबर 2022 के अंत में 2.8 मिलियन किलोमीटर से अधिक है. 5G रोलआउट के बाद फाइबर डिप्लॉयमेंट की गति 1,01,550 किलोमीटर की मासिक औसत दर से हो रही है.
