WhatsApp users can have two accounts on the same phone
WhatsApp multiple account is useful for people who don’t want to carry two phones for separate accounts and divide work and personal chats.
WhatsApp has been testing the ability to use multiple accounts on the same device which stops you from using two phones to use the messaging app. And now, Meta has officially confirmed that the feature is rolling out to Android users in the coming weeks and months. Features like this are handy for people using dual-SIM phones which is predominantly the case for WhatsApp users in markets like India.
WhatsApp clearly explains that the support for multiple accounts needs another phone and a SIM card active on the second number to make the feature work. However, you also have the option to use this tool for phones that accept eSIM which means those using the premium Android phones can also activate their second number on the device instead of carrying two everywhere.
“We’re introducing the ability to have two WhatsApp accounts logged in at the same time. Helpful for switching between accounts – such as your work and personal – now you no longer need to log out each time, carry two phones or worry about messaging from the wrong place,” WhatsApp explains in this post.
We first came across the multi-account support on the WhatsApp Android beta version which allowed beta testers to use the feature and report for any bugs that could cause some issue.
WhatsApp Multiple Account Feature: Here’s How It Works
So how can you activate dual phone numbers for WhatsApp on the same device? Here are the steps given by WhatsApp:
– Open WhatsApp on your Android phone
– Click on three-dot menu and tap on Settings
– Click on the drop down arrow next to your profile name
– Add another mobile number to your WhatsApp account
– Follow the steps to verify the number and start using the second number on the same WhatsApp account
WhatsApp has not shared details about the app version on Android that will support this feature but we have been using the option to add another mobile number on WhatsApp beta version 2.23.21.12 over the past few weeks and we expect the public release to have the same version.
