Twitter re-introduced the new-look Blue subscription for iOS and web users with new features and policies. Android users finally get their version as well.

Twitter Blue is finally headed to those with Android phones in select countries this week. The Blue subscription has been available on iOS for some time now, and the platform recently expanded its reach to countries like India as well.

But now Elon Musk is clearly looking to monetise the platform further, and what better way than have Twitter Blue available for Android phone users.

With this development, Twitter Blue is now available on the web, iOS, or Android but only for those who are based in countries like the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and the UK. Twitter Blue on mobile costs $11 (Rs 880 approx) per month for users in these countries, and this includes the Android version as well.

Musk has repeatedly talked about the Apple tax which became evident with the higher Twitter Blue subscription price, and you could say the same about Google’s commission on premium apps, which means Android users don’t get any discount on their subscription price for Twitter Blue.

The new look Blue offering includes verified (blue tick) accounts, support to upload 1080p videos, an edit button for tweets and also have the option to use custom app icons.

Twitter Blue has gone through a big overhaul since Elon Musk has been the chief at Twitter. There have been instances where the subscription was first removed, brought back and then re-introduced. Twitter accounts of reputed organisations got a grey tick, which was later changed to a gold tick.

Twitter also removed the old verification system, and people with legacy account holders were given a few months’ reprieve to retain their blue ticks, which is likely to go away for the Blue subscription in the near future. We wait to see how much Android users in India will have to pay for a Twitter Blue subscription, whenever it is announced for the market.
