Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 to Get New U2 Chip and Better Heart Rate Monitoring

According to a recent Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman, the new Apple Watches—Series 9 and Ultra—will look pretty much the same as the current models. But Gurman says they could have a new processor and “various sensors and internal component upgrades,” which may include a more accurate heart rate sensor as well. The new watches are also expected to get a new U2 chip, which is an upgraded version of the ultra-wideband chip that’s in the current models.

Apple Watch Ultra 2 Tipped to Get a New All-black Finish

The Apple Watch Ultra is undoubtedly one of the best-built watches ever produced by Apple. Its titanium casing and durable glass construction make it ideal for adventure-centric activities such as hiking and deep sea diving. However, the first-generation watch was only available in one color: gray, the natural color of titanium. Based on recent reports—to address this—Apple may offer a new all-black Apple Watch Ultra 2 to its customers this time.

No MicroLED Apple Watch this Year

There have been rumors that Apple is working on a redesigned Apple Watch that will be a major redesign—similar to how the iPhone X was for the iPhone. The watch was rumored to be released in 2024, but it now appears that it may be delayed until the second half of this decade. Analyst Ross Young said that the microLED Apple Watch Ultra was scheduled to launch in the second half of 2025, but TrendForce believes it is unlikely to be released until Q1 2026.
