A tiny patch could help rescuers perform CPR better; student invention wins $10,000

Four University of Washington students have developed CPRight, a wallet-sized patch that uses LED lights to guide rescuers during CPR. The device provides real-time feedback on chest compression depth and rate without requiring additional equipment. The invention won the $10,000 undergraduate first prize at the 2026 Collegiate Inventors Competition, which also recognised innovations in cancer treatment, rehabilitation and neurological monitoring.
