On February 1, 2025, a research team used the XRISM telescope to study GX 301–2. They captured a unique event of gas falling onto a neutron star. The observations revealed changes in iron absorption lines from redshift to emission over time. The study suggests multi-phase accretion and indicates interactions with the stellar wind. These findings provide new insights into how neutron stars feed on surrounding matter.
