Two San Francisco roommates spent nearly two months trying to identify strange scratching noises coming from inside their apartment walls. The mystery ended when a mother raccoon that had built a nest inside the wall gave birth to babies and later broke through into one tenant’s bedroom. The roommates eventually moved out after the animals were removed and received about $4,600 in reduced rent and expenses. The incident highlights how wild animals can sometimes find shelter inside buildings without residents realising it until the problem becomes impossible to ignore.
