A 38-year-old DMK functionary and town panchayat councillor, A. Ranjith Kumar, was brutally hacked to death by an armed gang near Trichy on Monday night. The assailants waylaid him on motorcycles and attacked him with sharp weapons before fleeing the scene. Police are investigating the incident, suspecting business rivalry as a motive, and have detained several individuals.
