While the iPhone 15 series comes with the new USB Type-C port, if you look closely inside, you will find either India or China engraved.
Apple is only assembling the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus in India. So, if you buy the iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Plus, you see “India” engraved inside the opening of the USB Type-C port.
Apple has been assembling iPhones in India for quite some time now, since iPhone 6S in 2015. But this year it’s special with the iPhone 15 series. Apple is selling only “Assembled in India” iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models in India from the first day of sale. Usually, “Assembled in China” iPhones were sold in India during the initial months and it was only after a few months that “Assembled in India” models took over the market. But this time, it’s very clear– it’s either India or China from day one itself. And Apple is secretly writing it in the new iPhone 15 models as well.
While the iPhone 15 series comes with the new USB Type-C port, if you look closely inside, you will find either India or China engraved. You really need to pay attention under ample light to see it. Apple has always been clear about the source country, but this time, the location of the engraving has made this topic trend on social media.

The thing is very simple, Apple is only assembling the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus in India. Not the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Both the iPhone 15 Pro models are still assembled in China. So, if you buy the iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Plus, you see “India” engraved inside the opening of the USB Type-C port. And if you are buying the iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max, you will see “China”.

Apple is assembling the iPhone 15 at Foxconn’s manufacturing plant near Chennai. There are no plans as such to assemble the iPhone 15 Pro models in India. But rest assured, the prices will continue to remain the same. The cost of the latest iPhones are always the highest in India after local taxes and even with the iPhone 15 series, nothing much has changed on the pricing front. However, this year it may not make much sense for Indians to buy the iPhone 15 series from the US or UAE. Why? Well, the US models are eSIM only and the price difference doesn’t serve enough ROI to get from Dubai or other regions.
